Position Overview
The Senior Network Operations Engineer is responsible for rapid recovery of network outages and the day-to-day network operations at a large federal government agency’s Tier 3 Network Operation Center (NOC). The Senior Network Operations Engineer should be comfortable troubleshooting LAN, WAN, Remote Access, Router, Firewall and Load Balancer related issues for local and remote customers. Candidate will work primarily in a CISCO environment mixed with other technologies to include TACLANE, WAN Accelerators, F5 and Ace Load Balancers.

The position will require support of both unclassified and classified networks. Provide rapid recovery of network outages and conduct network maintenance while receiving work direction from the Network Operations Lead and Program Manager. Execute conference calls for assigned maintenance activities and outages. Update and resolve outages and maintenance using Service Manager ticketing system. Generate reports as required for review by the Network Operations Lead for assigned outages. A candidate will be responsible to understand and ensure compliance for meeting critical Service Level Agreements (SLA), and Key Performance Indicators (KPI). Additionally in the absence of the Task Lead, the Senior Network Operations Engineer is responsible for supervising the Network Operations Engineering team; overseeing requests from customers via IT helpdesk tags; and helping to lead projects in managing installation, setup, and front-line, technical customer support.

Candidate will be expected to understand, implement, and follow processes in accordance with current policies and procedures. Perform escalation and additional tasks as directed. Stand in when Network Operations Lead is unavailable to include attendance at meetings, conference calls, interface with customer, issue escalations and report generation.

Minimum of 8 years as an innovative technical professional, customer service oriented, and highly knowledgeable engineer in the field of Network and Security Engineering with experience in a NOC environment.

Strong Cisco Ace Load Balancer problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio, and Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel experience is required.

Requires a high level of project coordination skills to manage the execution of maintenance activities and network outages. Experience must include network design, operational support, and configuration of network devices such as Load Balancers, routers, hubs, switches, Taclanes, and associated software tools.

Must be highly organized and proactive, with a keen attention to detail, able to work in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision.

Working knowledge of network monitoring tools, particularly the HP suite (i.e. Network Node Manager and Network Automation).

Previous team leadership experience.

Knowledge of network protocols such as OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS, and ATM is required.

Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technology field is highly desirable, but non-degree candidates with additional practical experience will be considered as well.

Minimum of Cisco CCNA is required. Active Top Secret security clearance with ability to attain SCI access.

 ITIL foundation V3 certification is highly desirable.
